Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon Easter Egg Screenshot by xFlowerstarx Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon Easter Egg Screenshot by xFlowerstarx
This is an Easter Egg which only works if you attempt to block the NPC's (Non-playable Character) way which ensues them to say things you normally wouldn't expect them to. However, this doesn't work on everyone. It will only work on Bartholomew, who is Bentley's little brother, and the female pandas from the Bamboo Terrace. Though, trying to block the pandas' way is much tougher than doing the same to Bartholomew. I discovered this Easter Egg by accident when I thought that Bartholomew is following me. It's definitely worth giving this a try for a laugh.

Also, this Easter Egg will only occur if you start the whole game from scratch on a new file. When you're at the beginning of Bentley's Outpost for instance, walk towards Bartholomew and talk to him. He asks you to break the boulder which is blocking the doorway. When you destroy it, proceed to the next area but don't walk through the doorway entirely. Turn around and you should see him standing on one of the steps behind you. Go over and talk to him and he'll tell you to move out of his way since he is supposed to be moving ahead of you.

Me too! :) :D :meow: It's one of my favourite Classic Spyro games. Plus, in my opinion, it's the perfect way to celebrate Chinese New Year. After all, the game IS called "Year of the Dragon" for a reason. It's named after one of the creatures or animals from the Chinese Zodiac and it is released in 2000, which is the Year of the Dragon at the time. The Year of the Dragon comes every 12 years and there won't be another one until another 12 years. It is regarded as the most luckiest out of all the animals and the most sacred. Just let me know if you want to know more of Chinese New Year.

I knew that. :D Last year was year of the Snake, and 2012 was year of the dragon, also. :D And I just played through this game again! Omigosh, so many fond memories of playing this with my mom when I was younger. 8D In this game, my fave characters are Bianca, Sheila, Sgt. Byrd, and Agent 9. Who are yours?

Yep, last year was my Chinese Zodiac year which just so happens to be the Year of the Snake and 2012 is the Year of the Dragon also. I played this game for 15 days since the Chinese New Year festivities/holiday tends to last for that long which is my way of celebrating Chinese New Year. Anyway, you ought to check out my review. It's very popular amongst the fans. I have written it two years ago. This year is the Year of the Horse and I already have special plans for it. The celebration may have ended but it's still the Year of the Horse until next year. Um... my favourite character is obviously Spyro himself. I used to like Zoe but she's not my favourite character anymore. By the way, do you have a habit of turning the camera to face Spyro? He's soooooo adorable with those pair of big amethyst-coloured eyes. :aww: :meow: He seemed to have purple irises in those irresistibly adorable eyes.

Yeah, that sounds cool. :D
Awww, yesh! He's sooo adorable!! <3 I would stand facing a wall and rotate the camera so it doesn't automatically jump back in place. Also, did you know that if you keep Spyro idle long enough, Sparx will move toward the camera?

I already knew that YEARS ago. Why are you telling me something from 14 years ago? :icondoublefacepalmplz: Everyone knows that.

I just didn't think anyone would purposely keep Spyro idle for the chance of seeing that. :/ I discovered it one day when I left him standing in Sunrise spring home, and when I came back, Sparx was at the screen. (I forgot to pause the game.)

But still, you shouldn't be telling me something that's old news and so 14 years ago.

Not really an easter egg, just an ingame feature that meant to add a bit more interactivity in the game. If somebody accidently blocked an NPC they might not understand why nothing's happening, in this particular case, they won't have to guess as NPC explains to them that they're blocking NPC's path.

I thought it is an easter egg 'cause it is so secret and I didn't realise this until numerous years later when I replayed the level just for old times sake. I tried doing it on anyone I came across to like for instance, the hummingbirds, but it didn't work.

Easter eggs usually have some sort of meaning behind them, imagine if you break a wall in a certain place and find crash dancing inside, that would be an easter egg, this feature you've found is just a rare dialogue, to help players out if they migh block an NPC, preventing themselves from proceeding forward as well. This dialogu probably does not show up for other characters you tried to block because you might not be able to block them entirely, so they have no place to go, they just go around you instead and in that sense, you don't need that dialogue, cause the NPC is not stuck.

What category would this fall under if it's not an easter egg, cut content or unused idea? It's hard to try blocking the other characters' way, I can only do it to Bartholomew and the pandas. I was wondering what the other characters will say so I tried to do it to them but it didn't work out as I planned.

It's neither a cut conter or unused data, because clearly this idea was used in the game and it wasn't cut as you were probably playing a regular version of the game, not some company indoor beta that did not have a widespread release. I'd just call this a rare dialogue instead.

If I were to share this on the VGFacts website, it will probably fall under the category of "general trivia".

I didn't know about it until a lot of years later when I was an adult. I discovered this by accident when I thought Bartholomew is following me. I was wondering why he isn't moving ahead of me so I went to him and had a chat with him. This is all he came out with: "Hey you're in the way. Move it!". Rude, much? He could at least say, "Excuse me", but I laughed nevertheless.

Ha ha ha, that would be good for laugh, haven't even thought about the original Sypro games in quite awhile. Been trying to get me hands on the more recent games, still don't have Skylanders or the last of the Legend of Spyro games, don't have all the games mind ya.

I'm more only interested in the old-school Spyro series, especially the first three Spyro games. I don't give a damn about the modern Spyro games, they just don't hold a candle to the first three Spyro games. But other than that, I play Mario games from time to time, whether they are modern or old-school. I'm not too nitpicky on Mario 'cause he is pretty much doing the same stuff just like what he did back then in the oldies.

Hey don't get me wrong, the original games are good, not counting the stealth mission in the 2nd. And sure many of the Spyro games after the 5th are pretty bad from what I've heard, but the Legend of Spyro games are a decent so-called supposedly-needed reboot for the series, and the only Spyro games that seem way off course would be the Skylanders games. Keep in mind I haven't played them so I don't know the full story behind them, but I'll see if they tie in with the Legend games and how well they really work when I can, which honestly should be sooner rather then later in my opinion. One last thing: what are you complaining about with the Legend games? They did a decent job, the only thing they did wrong in my opinion was restarting Spyro's life, without a reason for him to have to be reborn restarting his life is pointless.

Everyone have different opinions. You can't expect me to like every single game out there. I'm allowed to like and hate something, aren't I? Besides, I have stopped buying Spyro games for good years ago. Furthermore, I tend to go for games that stick to the continuity and character designs that are consistent. You'd better not start something with me, or I'll be forced to block you permanently and mark your comments as spam. Understand? I'm sticking to the old-school Spyro games and that's that. You can't force me to change my opinion and you can't make me. You dare to change a close-minded person then you're no officially nice.

Ugh what are WE doing? I didn't intend to start anything here, besides of course your allowed to hate or like whatever, I was just stating MY opinion. There's no point in threatening me when I make NO intentional hostilities. Besides considering how many times when someone when their about to post THEIR choices, they make that CLEAR it should be rather obvious WITHOUT having to post it again, that this is MY opinion not yours and especially not the opinion of the internet. Which for some reason, everyone wants to believe everything they read/watch, when here's a reality check: your NOT supposed to believe everything. Now for both our sakes let's just drop this nonsense, and just agree to disagree.

Then let's agree that I can hate the reboots (The Legend of Spyro and Skylanders), all right? They're not my cup of tea whatsoever. If you're talking about the screenshot, I didn't get it from anywhere. I took a picture of it using my digital camera to show proof that I have found this Easter Egg by accident. Besides, I've got better things to do than waste my time with games that I'm not willing to try out.

That's why I said agree to disagree, to end a pointless argument before it started, and it was obvious about the camera. I am somewhat a photographer myself, but I'm no pro.

The point is I'd rather play games that I'm more accustomed to such as Mario, Kirby, Animal Crossing, Croc, Classic Spyro and some other PlayStation One games. Sure, I play some modern games from time to time but only if they are related to the Mario, Kirby and Animal Crossing franchises. But most of the time, I'm a retro gamer.
